Mayor David Martin held a third meeting with leaders of the Westside community to hear their concerns and discuss proposed changes in the aftermath of the passing of Steven Barrier. In October and November the Mayor invited members of the Clergy, NAACP, and Board Representative to his office to discuss details of the incident.
“While internal changes are being reviewed, it is critical the community plays a role in the changes we make to our processes,” said Mayor David Martin.
On Dec. 19 the Mayor held another meeting to allow community leaders to advise him — and Stamford’s Police Department — on changes that will help when responding to similar calls in the future. Mayor Martin was joined by Police Chief Thomas Wuennemann, Director of Public Safety Ted Jankowski, and Director of Social Service Ellen Bromley. This meeting discussed the impact of mental illness on families, and the resources available for individuals with mental health issues.
Mayor Martin expects to provide more details to the public on proposed changes prior to the State’s Attorney’s Office releasing its final report on this issue.
