Children ages 11 to 13 will learn how to handle emergencies when caring for younger children. Safe Sitters also receive helpful tips to make them more confident babysitters and caregivers, and learn safety and security precautions, such as what to do if a stranger comes to the door and how to call for help. They also receive information on child development and age-appropriate activities, while learning about the business of babysitting.
The Safe Sitter® curriculum is designed exclusively for children in grades 6–8, and covers the following areas: safety skills, child care skills, first aid & rescue skills, and life & business skills. Safe Sitter® courses are instructor-led and interactive, with hands-on demonstrations and skills practice using soft-bodied dolls and medical manikins. Safe Sitter® Essentials with CPR is a 6-½ hour course that covers all of the course content in Safe Sitter® Essentials with an additional hour of CPR instruction and manikin practice.
