Why did my assessment decrease but my taxes increased?

Your assessment and your district’s mill rate are determined separately, by different City entities. The Office of Assessment is responsible for assessing and revaluating all property in the City. It is possible that the Office of Assessment will lower your assessment and the Board of Finance will increase the mill rates to compensate for budgetary needs of the City. In some cases this will increase your annual tax amount.
