The Special Investigation Juvenile Offense Unit (S.I.J.O.U.), formerly the Youth Bureau/Services, is comprised of sworn officers assigned to investigations or the School Resource Officer Program. Officers are also assigned to specialized areas such as:

T.A.R.I.P Program (Truancy / At Risk Intervention Program)
The Truancy / At Risk Intervention Program was established to deal with high risk teens who through their negative contacts with the Police Department, Board of Education and Juvenile Probation have shown a level behavior that will lead to serious consequences as they enter adulthood. At High Risk Kids are evaluated based on various levels of behaviors.

  • Truancy
  • Runaways
  • Shoplifting
  • Gang affiliation

Identified teens are directed to a Youth Bureau Investigator (Silas Redd) who through a series of home visits establishes a relationship with the teen and his/her family. The situation is evaluated and the teen /family are directed to programs and services that would allow for successful and accepted behavior changes. Teens have been directed to services such as Child Guidance, Family Centers, Tutoring Programs, Urban League, CTE, Glenbrook Community Center (audio and television production), Stamford Theater Workshop, Boys & Girls Club, Big Brother Big Sister of Southwestern CT., West Hill HS Football Program, and even employment placement. The T.A.R.I.P Program has become a valued member of the Stamford Juvenile Review Board

S.I.C.A.C. (Stamford Internet Crimes Against Children) Task Force established during the course of this past year the Youth Bureau was charged with establishing an Internet Crimes Against Children Unit. The unit would investigate the sexual exploitation of children by use of the internet. The unit would investigate crimes against children in the areas of Child Pornography and Internet Predators.

The S.I.J.O.U. also has officers assigned to both Stamford and West Hill High Schools as well as A.I.T.E.
