The primary mission of the Bomb Squad is to conduct diagnostics, mitigation and render safe procedures on suspected Hazardous Devices, to include Improvised Explosive Devices (IED's) and Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD's) and Chemical, Biological, and Radiological threats.

Connecticut has three municipal and one state; fully established and equipped Bomb Squads. Stamford is one of these bomb squads. The Stamford Police Bomb Squad was established in 1962 and consists of multiple certified Hazardous Devices Technicians.. The Stamford Bomb Squad is a fully equipped and highly training unit that has the capability to effectively operate multiple hazardous device operations and/or weapons of mass destruction incidents as they may arise.  Our Technicians are members of the FBI-EOD/WMD Joint Terrorism Task Force and as members are also sworn Federal Marshals.
