Terry Conners Continued Operations Committee Formed

STAMFORD, Conn. — Mayor David Martin announced today the Terry Conners Continued Operations Committee, a committee created to ensure Terry Conners ice rink remains in service and financially solvent for the foreseeable future. This committee’s creation follows the Board of Finance’s ongoing cuts to the City services — including Terry Conners Rink — in response to the economic impact of COVID-19.

“Terry Conners Rink provides immeasurable value to our residents but requires a long-term financial plan to ensure it stays operational,” said Mayor David Martin. “This committee will consider and discuss a variety of options and prepare an RFP for potential partnerships with rink operators or nonprofits to ensure Terry Conners stays operational.”

The Continued Operations Committee will include a member of the Board of Finance, a member of the Board of Representatives, Director of Economic Development Thomas Madden, Parks Superintendent Jennifer Williams, Special Assistant to the Mayor Laura Burwick, and a representative from the City’s legal department.

Terry Conners Rink is currently owned and managed by the City of Stamford. The facility has reported significant financial losses. Earlier this year Terry Conners Rink was closed due to COVID-19 shutdowns.

The City of Stamford continues to look for methods of reducing costs for taxpayers financially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, without eliminating critical services.
