About STIs and STDs

A sexually transmitted infection (STI) is a virus, bacteria, fungus, or parasite people can get through sexual contact. Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) develop because of STIs. STD implies that the infection has led to some symptoms of disease. STIs spread from person to person through oral, anal, and vaginal sex, as well as skin-to-skin genital contact. Most STIs do not show signs or symptoms. It is important for both you and your partner(s) to be tested regularly.
