Share the Fare - Discounted Taxi Program

Share the Fare is a subsidized taxi program designed to help Stamford seniors (age 62+) and individuals with disabilities travel more affordably around the city. The program allows eligible residents to purchase taxi vouchers at ½ price and use them for rides with local taxi companies.

Share the Fare Vouchers

Eligible participants purchase voucher books at a discounted rate with the Cashiering & Permitting Department located at 888 Washington Blvd.,1^st Floor, Stamford, CT 06901.

Participants must bring a valid photo ID, proof of age (62+) or disability documentation.

Voucher books cost $25.00, with a maximum purchase limit of four (4) books per month per individual.
Each voucher book contains ten (10) $5.00 vouchers for a total value of $50.00.
Vouchers are used just like cash to pay for metered taxi fares.
Vouchers cannot be exchanged, resold, or transferred and no refunds are issued for lost or stolen voucher books.

Pay Your Taxi Driver

Use your Share the Fare vouchers to pay the metered fare.
If your fare is not a multiple of $5.00, pay the remainder in cash or coins.
- Examples:
  - Fare is $10.20. Use two (2) vouchers ($10.00) + $0.20 cash.
  - Fare is $7.00. Use one (1) voucher ($5.00) + $2.00 cash.
Drivers do not give change for vouchers. Tips must be paid separately in cash.
