The School Dental Hygiene Program is a prevention-focused initiative led by licensed public health dental hygienists. Through this program, hygienists offer age-appropriate classroom education on proper  brushing, flossing, and nutrition to promote strong, healthy teeth. In addition, annual dental screenings are conducted in licensed dental hygiene rooms located in Stamford's public elementary and middle schools. If any dental concerns are identified during screenings, parents will be notified and provided a referral for follow-up care.

Please Note | Screenings do not replace your child's regular 6-month dental checkups. Participation in this program is voluntary, and parents may choose to opt out of the screening program.

Sealant Program

The Sealant Program is available at no cost to 2nd grade students in Stamford's public elementary schools. Dental sealants are thin, protective plastic coatings applied to healthy, fully erupted permanent molars. These coatings help prevent cavities by sealing the grooves on the chewing surfaces of the teeth, areas where food and bacteria often collect and are difficult to clean.
