Established by City Charter and Ordinance, the Stamford Social Services Commission is responsible for enforcing the City’s Fair Rent and Human Rights (anti-discrimination) laws. The Commission also serves as an oversight body on matters impacting the social welfare of Stamford residents and works to ensure that all individuals have the information and support they need to secure basic needs such as housing, food, and healthcare.

The Social Services Commission Coordinator supports this work by:

  • Responding to public inquiries about housing issues, including landlord and tenant rights, evictions, relocation, public and senior housing, and public funding programs

  • Investigating complaints of excessive rent increases or reductions in housing services, and coordinating hearings as required by state and local laws

Through these efforts, the Commission helps ensure fairness, equity, and access to essential services for all Stamford residents

For more information contact Sharona Cowan, Social Services Commission Coordinator at (203) 977 - 4051.
