The Eviction Storage Program helps Stamford residents retrieve their belongings after an eviction or foreclosure, as required by Connecticut law (Connecticut General Statutes § 47a-42). The City coordinates the storage, retrieval, and auction of items removed during the eviction process.

What does the Eviction/Foreclosure Storage Program Do?

  • Stores belongings removed during an eviction
  • Helps evicted tenants schedule pick-up of their items
  • Organizes monthly auctions for unclaimed belongings
  • Provides information and resources about evictions and prevention

How to Retrieve Belongings After an Eviction

  • ACT QUICKLY - Items are stored for at least 15 days. After that, they may be auctioned.
  • CALL IMMEDIATELY - Contact the Mandated Services Specialist (203) 977 - 4112 to schedule an appointment.
  • CLAIM ITEMS - Only the person evicted can claim items. Anyone else must provide the department with written permission or legal proof.
  • BRING HELP - You'll need a vehicle and assistance to move your items. Storage pick-up is by appointment only.
  • BEFORE THE AUCTION - You can pay to reclaim your belongings up until the day before the auction.
  • AFTER THE AUCTION - You have 30 days to claim any money the City received from selling your items (minus fees),
