Extreme heat is a growing public health concern.

To stay safe in extreme heat, especially if you are working outside during the day:

  • Drink cool water, even when you are not thirsty.
  • Watch for signs of overheating in yourself and others. Examples are: headaches, nausea, heavy sweating, and thirst.
  • Take time out of the sun and eat.
  • Wear a hat, loose clothing, and light colors.
  • Place an ice pack on your neck or under your arms to cool down.
  • Take breaks in the shade.

If someone is showing signs of heat illness, call 9-1-1 for help and do not leave the person alone. Cool them down with water right away.
