The Summer Street Corridor is a major travel route for motorists, CTtransit buses, delivery trucks, bicyclists and pedestrians. It was recently identified by the City and region as having one of the highest rates per mile of pedestrian crashes. The City remains committed to improving both pedestrian and traffic safety as part of the Complete Street Ordinance adopted in 2014 within one of the City's fastest growing corridors.

The goal of this project will be to significantly enhance pedestrian safety at the intersections of Summer Street at Main Street, Broad Street, North Street and Hoyt Street (please refer to attachments). This will be done by constructing curb extensions, which shorten crossing distances, and by constructing enhanced, High visibility crosswalks which will emphasize the crosswalk area.

Project Construction Cost Estimate (Preliminary Assessment): $1,400,000

• The project is funded through the Local Roads Accident Reduction Program (LRARP)
• The Federal Highway Administration will Provide 90% of the Construction Costs
• The City of Stamford will Provide All of the Design and 10% of Construction Costs

Residents can expect some delays associated with construction efforts and should plan alternate routes.

Construction will be starting Summer 2020 through Spring/Summer 2021.
