Metro North is the regional commuter railroad in Westchester County, NY and Western Connecticut and operated by the MTA based out of New York City. The New Haven Line that passes through Stamford connects the city to the major centers of New York, New Rochelle, Danbury, Waterbury, Norwalk, Bridgeport, and New Haven, as well as many stops in between.

Metro North is a public commuter rail system which anyone can ride. There are reduced fare options for seniors 65 and up as well as users with disabilities.

Where can you access schedule information?

A trip planner can be accessed through the MTA website.

What is the price?

Seniors 65+ and ADA riders are entitled to reduced one-way fares on Metro North except on New York-bound weekday AM Peak trains (Monday to Friday between 6 am and 10 am).

To access reduced fares, a rider must present a Medicare card or a federal or state ID proving age, ADA eligibility or entitlement to the reduced fare.

A Metro North fare table showing the reduced fares and a trip planner can be accessed at this website.

What accessibility features are available?

The North State Street entrance of Stamford Train Station is at ground level with no curb step up. This entrance connects to both elevators and escalators. There are ramps on the Station Place side of Stamford station also leading to elevators and escalators. All train platforms can be accessed by elevator or escalator.

Glenbrook and Springdale stations have ramps that can be accessed through their parking lots.

All stations’ accessibility features can be searched for at this webpage. It is recommended to contact the MTA information line at 877-690-5114 if you are uncertain about a station’s status or for any other information.

The Metro North Cares program helps riders notify train conductors to assist them with boarding the train. You must call ahead with enough advance notice, at least 15 minutes before the train arrives. A program representative can be reached at 877-690-5114 in Connecticut or 212-532-4900 in New York.
