Wire Mill Bridge

Background

The Wire Mill Road bridge was built circa 1957, has a total structure length of 25 feet, a span length of 22-feet, and a curb to curb width of 30-feet. The existing bridge is designed with steel girders spanning between two reinforced concrete abutments, reinforced concrete deck approximately 12” thick with metal railing on both sides. The overall condition of the bridge was rated to be “Poor” by ConnDOT inspection and thus a traffic restriction was implemented with temporary barricades installed on both sides of the bridge with a weight limit to drive across the bridge.
