The Mayor is pleased to announce Pilar Pelaez as the new Chair of the Mayor's Multicultural Council as of January 5, 2026. Ms. Pelaez has appointed Ms. Naomi Osei Mensah as her Co-Chair. As we welcome in the new leaders, we also want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our outgoing executive team: Eva Weller, Chair; Malinda Polite, Vice Chair; Shobhna Bhatnagar, Treasurer; and Ana Gallegos, Secretary. Elections for the new Treasurer and Secretary will take place at the next MMC meeting scheduled for later this month.

The mission of the Mayor's Multicultural Cultural is to inform, celebrate, promote, understand, appreciate, and respect the many diverse cultures that enrich Stamford. The Council best achieves this mission with the help of a diverse group of volunteers who work together to support, organize, and host culturally rich events. To kick-off off the year, the MMC hosted the City's first Muslim Heritage Month celebration at the Ferguson Library. Thank you to all who came out to support. Throughout the year, the MMC will help to support, sponsor, and promote the various flag raising ceremonies that happen every month and encourage all to attend. The more we can learn about each other's cultures and traditions, the more we can deepen understanding and compassion for one another. The next flag raising ceremony will be in celebration of Black History Month on Saturday, February 7, 2026 at 1PM in the lobby of Government Center.
