Beaches and Recreational Shellfish Beds

Beaches and Recreational Shellfish Beds

The Stamford Department of Health, Environmental Inspections Division routinely obtains water samples from local beaches and recreational shellfish beds to monitor water quality.

Shellfishing

Shellfish beds at Cove and Westcott Cove are either open or closed for recreational shell fishing depending on water quality and rainfall amounts.

Beaches

Beaches are sampled weekly during the summer season to monitor water quality and may be closed occasionally due to poor water quality and/or heavy rainfall.  When the beach is closed it may be closed just because the water quality is poor and swimming isn’t allowed.  You may however still sit on the sand away from the water.
