About the Engineering Department

Capital Projects:

  • Capital Project administration from budgeting to project implementation
  • Prepare A&E RFP, RFQ, and contract bid documents
  • Capital Planning from survey, design and construction administration to project completion
  • Construction administration, coordination, and inspection of City and BOE capital projects
  • Coordinate public utility improvements with Capital Program
  • Seek Federal and State grant opportunities for Capital Projects

Regulatory Functions:

  • Review Zoning applications for sub-divisions
  • Review Environmental Protection Board permit applications
  •  Subdivision plan review and subsequent construction inspection
  • Review and issue Street Opening and Street Use permits
  • Investigate complaints related to infrastructure in the City’s Right-of-Way
  • Assist other departments with technical input
  • Prepare Federal, State and Local permit applications

Complaint Responses:

  • Respond to general public complaints filed through Citizens Service Center regarding infrastructure including drainage, street lights, roadways and sidewalks
  • Respond to inquiries from Corporation Counsel

Engineering Administration:

  • Maintain engineering records
  • Provide the public, contractors and surveyors with the records on sanitary, storm, and roadway
  • Issue House Numbers
  • Issue Street Opening and Street Use Permits

Support Functions to Administration:

  • Prepare annual capital and operating budget requests for approval by Administration/Boards
  • Prepare and compile capital project easement agreements for Legal Department
  • Update monthly status reports for Capital Projects
  • Provide input to Geographic Information System database
