Appealing a Parking Ticket On-Line

When submitting an appeal, all supporting documentation: pictures, copies of permits, meter receipts, registration and repair bills must be submitted with your appeal. 
Failure to provide this documentation will result in a denial of your appeal. 

Written Ticket Appeals

Appeal forms can be obtained at each Cashiering and Permitting window located in the lobby of the Stamford Government Center. You must include and submit the following information on your written appeal: 

  • Date of appeal
  • Written explanation of why you are appealing your parking ticket
  • Parking ticket number
  • Name
  • License Plate Number
  • Street Address and Zip Code
  • Phone or cell number
  • e-mail address 

All documentation supporting your appeal must be submitted with it.  Failure to submit documentation will result in a denial of your appeal. Please include:

  • Copy of valid permit, parking, handicapped or residential parking permit zone.
  • Copy of vehicle registration 
  • Vehicle repair receipt 
  • Meter Receipt 
Invalid reasons for ticket appeals:
  • Not knowing parking rules or ordinances
  • Disagreement with the fine
  • Inability to pay fine
  • Forgetfulness
  • I put in the wrong parking space number 
  • I put in wrong license plate number 
  • I pressed the wrong amount of hours
  • Incorrect permit or expired permit
  • Failure to properly display permit, permit fell and could not be seen. 
  • Failure to notice parking signs 
  • I did not intend to park illegally
  • No one else received a ticket 
  • I have never been ticketed in this area before 
  • I did not have change or went to get change 
Valid reasons for appealing a ticket 
  • Substantial evidence that you did not commit the violation-a valid receipt or current permit which must be presented when appeal is submitted.
  • Meter malfunction – include documentation, receipts, pictures
  • Valid permit – A copy of your permit be included in your ticket appeal
  • No signage – picture of sign
  • Law enforcement vehicle  
  • Car broke down – must include documentation from car repair shop or towing receipt.

Extended Courtesy hoursfrom May 18 to June 30

Monday -Thursday 8:15 a.m. to 6:45 p.m

 

Friday - 8:15 am to 4:15

 

Saturdays – 9a.m. to 1:45 p.m.

   

PENALTIES FOR LATE PAYMENTS: 

  • If the ticket is not paid within 30 Calendar dates after ticket issuance the fine will increase by $25. Failure to pay within 60 days of ticket issuance the fine will increase an additional $25 for a total of $50 in late fees.
PARKING TICKET APPEALS 

YOU MUST SUBMIT PROPER BACKUP WITH YOUR APPEAL SUCH AS METER RECEIPTS AND COPIES OF VALID PERMITS.     FAILURE TO SUBMIT THIS INFORMATION AL WILL RESULT IN A DENIAL OF YOUR APPEAL. 

INVALID REASONS FOR APPEALING A PARKING TICKET 

  • Not knowing the parking rules or ordinances 
  • Paying the wrong meter, parking zone or license plate
  • Disagreement with the fine
  • Inability to pay the parking ticket fine 
  • Forgetfulness
  • Needing to park for a short period of time]
  • Inability to find a parking space 
  • Failure to obtain correct permit 
  • Failure to display permit properly
  • Failure to notice parking signs
  • I did not intend to park illegally
  • No one else received a ticket 
  • I never received a ticket in this area in the past. 
  • I didn’t have change or was going to get change

You may appeal a parking ticket within 30 days of issuance of the parking ticket by appealing online, by mail listing your name, address and ticket number and a BRIEF explanation to Parking Violations, 888 Washington Boulevard, 1st Floor Stamford, CT 06901.

You can come to Parking Violations and request and fill it a parking ticket appeals form and a decision on your appeal will be mailed to your home address.

If your appeal is denied you may request a formal hearing conducted by a parking ticket appeals hearing officer. You can request the formal hearing by contacting Parking Violations at 203-977- 4979 or request the hearing online. If your appeal is rejected, you may appeal at Stamford Superior Court Part D.
