Your City at Work: From the Mayor’s Desk

 

Read below to learn more about initiatives my administration is working on, resources for Stamford residents, information about upcoming events, and important city and state information.

MAYOR’S UPDATES

  •  Memorial Day Parade: Last week, I participated in the annual Stamford Memorial Day Parade to honor the brave men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation.

  • Vision Zero: A core priority of my administration is to eliminate roadway fatalities by 2032. This week, our Director of Public Safety Lou DeRubeis highlighted the Vision Zero Program and how we are redesigning streets to create a safer, more connected community. Click here to watch the video. 
  • ICYMI – Scalzi Park Tennis and Pickleball Courts Are Open: Last week, we celebrated the re-opening of the 10 newly renovated tennis courts at Scalzi Park this week! This project, which also includes six new pickleball courts, was funded with a $200,000 grant from the US Tennis Association of New England. Additional upgrades include blended court lines, new fencing, and LED lighting, ensuring these courts are modern, accessible, and welcoming spaces for residents of all ages to enjoy!

  • Navigating Small Business Financing: The Office of Economic Development is partnering with Ives Bank and a few SBA partners to educate small business owners and entrepreneurs on the lending process. This event will include a panel discussion, networking and food and drinks! Navigating Small Business Financing will take place on Tuesday, June 2 from 11:00 am - 2:00 pm at RIZZ Lounge & Grill.
  • Beach Permits: Beach permits are now available for purchase online, by mail, or in person at the Cashiering and Permitting Department. Residents are encouraged to buy their permits early rather than wait until beach season! Permits are required beginning on May 1st through September 30th. Click here to purchase your permit.
  • Apply for a Special Events Permit: To reserve a pavilion or host events at city parks, click here.

RESOURCES FOR RESIDENTS

  • Boards and Commissions: Are you a Stamford resident interested in serving on a City Board or Commission? Click here to learn more about serving.
  • Walk In Permitting: Walk-in Permitting occurs weekly every Wednesday from 8:30 - 10:30 am. Walk-in permitting sessions take place on the 7th floor of the Stamford Government Center. For more information, click here 

 EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES IN THE CITY

 CITY EVENTS

  • Stamford Day: Join the Mayor's Multicultural Council and Mill River Park Collaborative for Stamford Day on Sunday, May 31, 2026, from 10:30 am - 2:30 pm in Mill River Park for a celebration of rich history and diversity of Samford through art, music, dance, and prizes and more.

Traffic

  • Eversource Cable Modernization Project: Eversource has started construction to replace two of its underground cables from 1968. To learn more and sign up for construction updates, click here
  • Old Long Ridge Road Bridge: After a visual inspection of the Old Long Ridge Road Bridge, just south of Hunting Ridge Road, city engineers have implemented a temporary one-way traffic pattern, effective immediately. The City will share further updates as they become available.
  • Mill Road Bridge: The Mill Road bridge near Old Long Ridge Road is open to one lane vehicular traffic. Click here for updates.
