Your City at Work: From the Mayor’s Desk

 

I want to extend my warmest wishes to all Stamford residents celebrating Passover and Easter this week. Whether you are gathering for a Seder or celebrating Easter Sunday, these holidays offer a meaningful time for reflection and community. Read below to learn more about initiatives my administration is working on, resources for Stamford residents, information about upcoming events, and important city and state information.

MAYOR’S UPDATES

  • Celebrating Women’s History Month at Stamford High School: This week, I joined students and local leaders for an inspiring celebration of Women’s History Month. The event focused on empowerment and leadership, providing a platform for students to connect directly with women trailblazing in their own community. You can read about the event here.

     

  • School Construction Corner: ICYMI, the City of Stamford Operations Department has launched its first issue of Building Excellence, our community’s source for updates on the construction and enhancement projects across Stamford Public Schools. CITY NEWS

  • Small Business Hours: The City of Stamford Office of Economic Development is offering limited one-on-one appointments for Stamford small business owners to meet with our Small Business Counselor and a representative from Ives Bank. The last session will take place at the Government Center on the 7th floor on April 9th from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm.
    • These 30-minute sessions provide an opportunity to discuss: Business financing planning, loan readiness, application support, and general small business guidance

  • Autism Acceptance Month Family Fun Day: The Stamford Police Department will host a “Family Fun Day” at the Stamford Police Station on April 9th. This is a free, sensory-friendly interactive event for the community to come together to celebrate Autism Acceptance Month.

  • Beach Permits: Beach permits are now available for purchase online, by mail, or in person at the Cashiering and Permitting Department. Residents are encouraged to buy their permits early rather than wait until beach season! Permits are required beginning on May 1st through September 30th. Click here to register.

     

  • Apply for a Special Events Permit: To reserve a pavilion or host events at city parks click here.

     

    RESOURCES FOR RESIDENTS

  • Good Friday Garbage & Recycling Schedule:
    • There will be regular scheduled garbage and recycling collection on Friday, April 3.
    • All administrative offices will be closed. The Katrina Mygatt Recycling Center and the Transfer Station will also be closed.
    • Facilities will re-open on Saturday, April 4
  • Boards and Commissions: Are you a Stamford resident interested in serving on a City Board or Commission? Click here to learn more about serving.
  • Walk In Permitting: Walk-in Permitting occurs weekly every Wednesday from 8:30 - 10:30 am. Walk-in permitting sessions take place on the 7th floor of the Stamford Government Center. For more information, visit here 
  • AARP Tax Aide: AARP Tax Aide will be available at the Government Center in the 4th floor cafeteria on Monday and Thursday from 10:00 am – 5:30 pm (walk in). For more information click here.
  • Learning in Retirement: Registration has begun for Learning in Retirement. Morning classes are offered in music, art, history, current events etc. For more information, the catalog and to register go to lirstamford.org

City Events

  • Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony: The Stamford Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony will take place on Sunday, May 17th at 12:00 pm. Kickoff will start at the Stamford Police Department Headquarters and finish at Veterans Memorial Park. See the flyer below for more information.

Traffic

  • Old Long Ridge Road Bridge: After a visual inspection of the Old Long Ridge Road Bridge, just south of Hunting Ridge Road, city engineers have implemented a temporary one-way traffic pattern, effective immediately. The City will share further updates as they become available.
  • Mill Road Bridge: The Mill Road bridge near Old Long Ridge Road is open to one lane vehicular traffic.  Residents can click here for updates.
  • Eversource Underground Transmission Project: Eversource has started construction on the installation of two new underground cables to replace the cables installed in 1968. The following streets will be affected. To sign up for updates and learn more visit here
      • Newfield and Crane
        • Work continues at Newfield and Crane for the vault installation. Newfield Avenue will be closed at Crane on 4/11 for the vault installation.
    • Cedar Heights Road between Alpine St and Duke Dr
      •  Cedar Heights Road will be closed for approximately 1.5 months between Alpine Street and Duke Drive for the installation of the vault there. This work is slated to start towards the end of March
