Your City at Work: From the Mayor’s Desk

Winter Storm Fern

Thank you to our dedicated snow removal crews and first responders for their tireless efforts during this past week’s winter storm, and their continuing efforts to remove snow. Their commitment to maintaining safe roadways and responding to emergencies ensures our community remains protected during challenging conditions.

As our region continues to experience an arctic air outbreak, please consider the following guidance to ensure your safety and protect your home:

  • Warming Shelters: The City has a variety of locations that serve as warming shelters during the day, see the flyer below for a list of shelters.

A list of Warming Centers in Stamford

  • Prolonged Cold Weather Safety Checklist:  The Stamford Fire Department urges residents to take the steps below to protect lives and property during a prolonged cold snap. With extended periods of below-freezing temperatures increase the risk of fires, carbon monoxide emergencies, frozen pipes, and medical emergencies. To learn more visit here
  • Prevent Frozen Pipes: Allow faucets to drip slightly to maintain water flow and keep cabinet doors open to allow warmer air to circulate around plumbing.
  • Heating Safety: Ensure space heaters are kept at least three feet away from flammable materials and never use a stove or oven to heat your home.
  • Check on Neighbors: Please take a moment to check on elderly neighbors or those with limited mobility to ensure they have adequate heat and supplies.

My administration remains committed to providing residents with the resources necessary to navigate these extreme temperatures safely. For further updates and city services, follow me on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram & the Stamford Police Department on Facebook.

MAYOR’S UPDATES

  • Health Department Clinic at Lathon Wider:  The City of Stamford's Public Health Clinic at the Lathon Wider Community Center (137 Henry St) is officially open and welcoming patients back after a temporary closure. Please call 203-977-5385 for an appointment.
  • Public Safety Alert: The Stamford Police is urging residents to stay alert following recent home invasions where suspects posed as delivery drivers from well-known companies. Some deliveries are made by third-party contractors who may use unmarked vehicles or deliver early or late. While this can be legitimate, criminals may exploit it to gain access to homes. Safety Tips include:
    • Do not open the door for unexpected deliveries
    • Delivery personnel should never need to enter your home
    • Verify deliveries using a doorbell camera, peephole, or window
    • Ask packages to be left at the door
    • Keep doors locked at all times
    • Trust your instincts—if something feels off, don’t engage
    • Report Suspicious Activity

Call 911 if a crime is in progress. Use the Stamford Police non-emergency line to report suspicious behavior: (203)-977-4444. The Stamford Police Department is actively investigating these incidents, and these simple precautions can help keep our community safe.
