Your City at Work: From the Mayor’s Desk

 

Happy New Year! As we enter the new year, I am feeling incredibly grateful for the resilience and spirit of our Stamford community. I am energized by the opportunities ahead in this new year to continue making Stamford a more inclusive, vibrant, and innovative place to live and work. My administration remains focused on delivering results that improve the quality of life for every resident, from strengthening our infrastructure to expanding economic opportunity. I look forward to working alongside all of you to make 2026 a year of significant progress and shared success for our great city. – Mayor Caroline Simmons

MAYOR’S UPDATES

  • City Crews: The holiday season brought an increase in winter weather activity, and I want to extend a big thank you to the dedicated employees of the City of Stamford Operations Department. These teams have worked tirelessly in challenging conditions to treat our roads and ensure the safety of our residents.

  • Christmas Tree Pickup: The City of Stamford will begin curbside pick-up of Christmas trees beginning January 12, 2026. Trees must be placed on the curb, as the City will only be making one round of pick-ups.  Residential Christmas tree pick up will begin January 12th, and for condos beginning January 19th. CITY NEWS

  • Lathon Wider Community Center: On the morning of Thursday, January 2, the City Facilities Department was notified of a flooding incident in the basement of the Lathon Wider Community Center (137 Henry Street) caused by a failure in a piece of mechanical equipment. The target date for reopening the building is January 2026. For any questions or urgent needs regarding the Health Department’s walk-in health services, please call (203)-977-5652.

     

  • Apply for a Special Events Permit: To reserve a pavilion or host events at city parks click here.

     

  • Superintendent Search: The Stamford Board of Education is inviting residents to participate in a series of public input sessions throughout the month of January regarding the search for a new Superintendent of Schools. Your participation is vital to help shape the future of Stamford Public Schools and ensuring the selection process reflects the priorities of our community. Register here.

     

    RESOURCES FOR RESIDENTS

  • Boards and Commissions: Are you a Stamford resident interested in serving on a City Board or Commission? Click here to learn more about serving.
  • Walk In Permitting: Walk-in Permitting occurs weekly every Wednesday from 8:30 - 10:30 am. Walk-in permitting sessions take place on the 7th floor of the Stamford Government Center. For more information, visit here 
  • Open Enrollment: Open enrollment in Connecticut runs until January 15th. During this time, residents can sign up for, renew, or make changes to their health coverage for 2026. Individuals and families can enroll directly at any Community Health Center across Stamford and the state, where trained and certified staff are available to provide free, in-person assistance throughout the process.

 

Employment Opportunities in the City

Traffic

  • Old Long Ridge Road Bridge: After a visual inspection of the Old Long Ridge Road Bridge, just south of Hunting Ridge Road, city engineers have implemented a temporary one-way traffic pattern, effective immediately. The City will share further updates as they become available.

     

  • Mill Road Bridge: The Mill Road bridge near Old Long Ridge Road is open to one lane vehicular traffic.  Residents can click here for updates.
