Your City at Work: From the Mayor’s Desk

Read below to learn more about initiatives my administration is working on, resources for Stamford residents, information about upcoming events, and important city and state information.

Remembering Herman Naring: It is with great sadness that we mourn the loss of Stamford Fire Department Firefighter Herman Naring, who bravely fought a valiant battle with cancer. Firefighter Naring served our city with honor for more than 41 years — beginning as a volunteer firefighter in 1984 and later joining the department as a career firefighter in 2003. His commitment, professionalism, and compassion have made a lasting impact on the City of Stamford and on everyone who had the privilege of working with him. My deepest condolences go out to the Naring family, and his friends and colleagues during this difficult time.

MAYOR’S UPDATES

  • Mayor’s Business Advisory Council: It was great to start the week with a convening of the Mayor’s Business Advisory Council, where we discussed ongoing economic development priorities and the new business attraction campaign launched by the City’s Office of Economic Development. The campaign positions Stamford as peerless in terms of what it offers the business community. I’m grateful for the partnership of our business leaders as we continue to grow our local economy, support our small businesses, and ensure Stamford remains a great place to live and work.

  • Stamford Tech Hub: I was excited to join Charter Communications, The Stamford Partnership, Webster Bank, and DAE to celebrate the Stamford Tech Hub’s new permanent home at Charter’s headquarters. This $5 million initiative has already enrolled more than 90 learners, with 54 graduates completing training in cybersecurity, software engineering, and other high-demand fields. The new dedicated space will allow the program to grow, strengthen support services, and expand pathways into tech careers for Stamford residents.

Selected businesses will be matched with professionals who will provide onsite video and photography sessions, edited highlight reels, and additional promotional materials.
