Your City at Work: From the Mayor’s Desk

Read below to learn more about initiatives my administration is working on, resources for Stamford residents, information about upcoming events, and important city and state information.

MAYOR’S UPDATES

  • Ongoing Federal Government Shutdown: My administration and I are continuing to closely monitor the potential impacts of the federal government shutdown on city grants, operations, and our nonprofit and business partners. Below are some important updates:
    • Social Security & Medicare: Social Security checks will still go out, although new enrollments may face delays. Medicare will continue without interruption.
    • Travel: There may be longer airport wait times, as TSA, Customs, and air traffic controllers will work without pay. Passport processing may also be delayed.
    • Mail: The U.S. Postal Service will continue regular operations.
    • IRS: Many services will pause, so help and refunds could be delayed.
    • SNAP & WIC benefits: SNAP will continue and eligible households will still receive monthly benefits. Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) will no longer receive funding and will only be able to continue operations for a limited period of time.
    • Military & Law Enforcement: VA hospitals and the Military Health System will remain open, and TRICARE coverage will continue. Patients should confirm appointments with their providers, though new scheduling may face delays.
    • Small Business Support: The SBA cannot accept or process new business loans during a shutdown.

We continue to engage with our congressional delegation in their efforts to defend the interests of Connecticut residents.

  • Coffee with the Mayor: Join me for a casual coffee hour on Monday, October 20, from 9:00–10:00 a.m. at the Stamford Diner (135 Harvard Ave)! This is a great opportunity to connect, share what’s on your mind, and discuss the issues and ideas that matter most to our community. Whether you have a question, suggestion, or simply want to learn more about what’s happening around Stamford, I’d love to hear from you. Come grab a cup of coffee, chat with neighbors, and be part of the conversation about how we can continue building a stronger, more vibrant Stamford together.
  • Animal Shelter Groundbreaking: This week, we broke ground on Stamford’s new Animal Control & Care Center! This long-awaited 8,000 sq. ft. facility will provide compassionate, high-quality care for animals and a safe, modern space for our dedicated staff and volunteers.

  • Paint the Town Pink: Last week, I was honored to join hundreds at the Stamford Hospital Foundation’s 20th anniversary Paint the Town Pink luncheon — a beautiful event celebrating hope, resilience, and the power of early detection. Thank you to Stamford Health, the Paint the Town Pink Committee, the Stamford Hospital Foundation, and the incredible doctors, nurses, and staff at the Bennett Cancer Center for your compassionate care and unwavering support for patients and families.
