Your City at Work: From the Mayor’s Desk

Read below to learn more about initiatives my administration is working on, resources for Stamford residents, information about upcoming events, and important city and state information.

MAYOR’S UPDATES

  • Back to School in Stamford: It was wonderful to visit Northeast Elementary and spend time with students and staff as the new school year kicks off! As we welcome students back, I’m also proud that Stamford has secured historic state support for major school construction projects at Westhill High School and Roxbury Elementary, a significant step forward in creating modern, safe, and inspiring schools for our community. I look forward to visiting classrooms across the district in the months ahead to celebrate this progress and the incredible work happening every day.

     First Day of School

  • Advocating against sale of Aquarion: This week, I joined 26 fellow mayors and first selectmen in signing a letter urging PURA to reject the proposed sale of Aquarion to the Regional Water Authority. If approved, this sale would unfairly burden Stamford residents with higher rates, reduce oversight on rate setting, and eliminate customer access to PURA’s Customer Affairs Resolution Center. It would also leave Stamford without a seat in the new governance structure, removing our community’s voice in critical decision-making. I urge PURA to reject this sale and protect Stamford families and consumers across Connecticut. Read more here.

  • Stamford 13U Babe Ruth: Huge congratulations to Stamford’s 13U Babe Ruth baseball team! As one of ten regional teams nationwide, they battled their way to the World Series championship game with thrilling wins in the quarterfinals and semifinals. Despite their loss in the championship, we are so proud of their incredible run! Shout out to players Scott Dettmer, Luke Baker, Ryder Palange, Brandon Jones, Tyler O'Brien, Dylan Riveles, Cody Meek, Michael Nguyen, Leo Ovalles, Brayden Daunais, Ben Henderson, and Jack Patterson, as well as Head Coach Michael Riveles, and Assistant Coaches Kevin Patterson, Ken O'Brien, and Mark Henderson for all your hard work this season!

CITY NEWS

  • Convenience Retail Survey: The City of Stamford is partnering with the V20 Group to explore opportunities for additional convenience retail in the South End and Downtown. One of the top requests we continue to hear from residents is the return of a grocery store near 699 Canal Street (the former Fairway Market). Fill out the short survey below to express your interest and show prospective grocers that there is demand for a new grocery store in the South End and Downtown. Complete the survey here: www.699canalstreet.com.

  • Stamford 2035 Comprehensive Plan: We are excited to announce that the Stamford 2035 Draft Plan is available for public review and comment! Click here to view the plan and click here to submit your feedback. There are additional opportunities for residents to provide feedback, including a public meeting of the Planning Board on Tuesday, August 12 and two public hearings on Tuesday, September 9th (virtual) and Tuesday, September 16th (in-person at the 4th floor cafeteria at the Government Center).
