Message from Mayor Caroline Simmons:

“The Stamford community is heartbroken by the tragic loss of a young resident who was struck and killed while riding a minibike in Glenbrook over the weekend. My thoughts are with his family, friends, and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time” -

August 3, 2025

Dear Stamford Public Schools Community:

Last night, a hit and run accident in the Glenbrook neighborhood claimed the life of a child from our community. We are heartbroken to confirm that this young person—whose name is being withheld due to his age and out of respect for his family—was a middle school student in Stamford Public Schools (SPS). Losing a child is every family's worst nightmare, and we offer our deepest condolences to this young man’s parents, siblings, extended family, and friends.

This morning, personnel from the SPS Office of Family and Community Engagement, City of Stamford Postvention Taskforce, and the District’s social work team reached out to the family to offer support and assistance. School district leaders also spoke with the principal at the child’s school as well as the principals at the schools his siblings attend. City officials and SPS staff will continue to be there for the family as they navigate this unimaginable loss.

As news of this tragedy spreads and the child’s identity becomes known outside the immediate family, it should be expected that this young man’s friends and classmates will be overcome with feelings of grief and loss. The Stamford Youth Mental Health Alliance offers information about local mental health providers who can assist. Families may find the following resources helpful:

The Stamford Police Department (SPD) is investigating this incident and is seeking information about the driver of the vehicle, who fled the scene. If you have information that would be helpful to the investigation, please contact the SPD at 203.977.4712.

This is a painful loss for Stamford Public Schools and the entire Stamford Community. We ask you to keep this young man’s family and friends in your thoughts and prayers.

Respectfully,

Mayor Caroline Simmons
City of Stamford

Mr. Michael Hyman
President, Stamford Board of Education

Dr. Tamu Lucero
Superintendent of Schools
