Your City at Work: From the Mayor’s Desk

 

Read below to learn more about initiatives my administration is working on, resources for Stamford residents, information about upcoming events, and important city and state information.

MAYOR’S UPDATES

  • Celebrating 35 Years of the ADA: This month, I joined the Stamford ADA Advisory Council at Cove Island Park to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) which is a landmark law that has transformed access, equity, and inclusion for people of all abilities. We reaffirmed our commitment to building a more inclusive Stamford.

  • Stamford Youth Baseball Teams Advance to Regional and National Stages: Stamford’s youth baseball teams are making headlines this season. The U11 All-Star Team made history by winning the state championship for the first time since 1983 and now heads to the Regional Tournament. Meanwhile, the Babe Ruth 18U All-Star Team is headed to the World Series for the fourth consecutive year, a testament to their incredible talent and dedication. Congratulations to both teams - your city is proud and cheering you on!

     

    CITY NEWS

  • Reimaging Bedford Street: My administration has recently launched the Reimagine Bedford Street project which is a community-driven visioning process to shape the future of Bedford Street between Broad Street and Forest Street. We want to hear from you! Share what you love about Bedford Street and what you'd like to see improved. Take our survey here: https://veoci.com/v/p/form/323eu5qamzjn.
  • Stamford 2035 Comprehensive Plan: We are excited to announce that the Stamford 2035 Draft Plan is available for public review and comment! Click here to view the plan and click here to submit your feedback. There are additional opportunities for residents to provide feedback, including a public meeting of the Planning Board on Tuesday, August 12 and two public hearings on Tuesday, September 2 (virtual) and Tuesday, September 16 (in-person at the 4th floor cafeteria at the Government Center).   • Walk In Permitting Schedule: Don’t miss our upcoming walk-in permitting hours intended for residential and small commercial businesses such as food businesses, cosmetology, barber, and retail food establishments. City officials will be present to help those in attendance. Next session will be on Wednesday, August 6th between 9:30am – 12:00pm in the 7th Floor Lobby of Government Center.
  • Lathon Wider Community Center: On the morning of Thursday, January 2, the City Facilities Department was notified of a flooding incident in the basement of the Lathon Wider Community Center (137 Henry Street) caused by a failure in a piece of mechanical equipment. The target date for reopening the building is early October 2025. For any questions or urgent needs regarding the Health Department’s walk-in health services, please call (203)-977-5652.
    • The Stamford Health Department Community Public Health Clinic has temporarily moved to 138 Stillwater Avenue - a former Optimus location. Convenient street parking is available.
  • Apply for a Special Events Permit: To reserve a pavilion or host events at city parks click here.

     

  • Pavilion Rental: If you would like to host an event at the pavilion, please click here to apply.

     

  • Road Paving: Click here to see the updated list of roads paved and the top 200 roads list established in response to a city-wide road assessment conducted in 2022.

  • Boards and Commissions: Are you a Stamford resident interested in serving on a City Board or Commission? Click here to learn more about serving.

Events

  • Free Women's Self Defense Class: The Stamford Police Department will host a free women's self-defense class on Saturday, Aug. 9 from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at 2770 Summer St., the class is for women ages 16 and over. To register call 203-602-8821 or email Sgt. Adriana Molina at amolina@stamfordct.gov.

Employment Opportunities in the City

Traffic

  • Old Long Ridge Road Bridge: After a visual inspection of the Old Long Ridge Road Bridge, just south of Hunting Ridge Road, city engineers have implemented a temporary one-way traffic pattern, effective immediately. The City will share further updates as they become available.

     

  • Mill Road Bridge: The Mill Road bridge near Old Long Ridge Road is open to one lane vehicular traffic.  Residents can click here for updates.

     

  • Wire Mill Bridge: The Wire Mill Bridge is currently closed to vehicular traffic due to replacement. Residents can click here for updates.

 

  • Connecticut Department of Transportation Stamford Station Construction: Construction continues at the Stamford Train Station, so please make sure to plan ahead.
