Your City at Work: From the Mayor’s Desk

Read below to learn more about initiatives my administration is working on, resources for Stamford residents, information about upcoming events, and important city and state information.

Mayor Simmons Statement on the passing of Stamford Board of Representatives President Jeff Curtis: “I am deeply saddened by the passing of Board of Representatives President Jeff Curtis. A lifelong Stamford resident, Jeff was a dedicated public servant who cared deeply about our city and gave his time and energy to a wide range of civic and community organizations. I was grateful for his years of service during my first term as Mayor. My thoughts are with his family and friends during this difficult time”.

Mayor Simmons Statement on the passing of former State Representative Christel Truglia: I am deeply saddened by the passing of former State Representative Christel Truglia. I was honored to know Christel and I was inspired by her leadership, passion for our community, and compassion for children, families, and those most in need. She had a big heart and was a dedicated public servant whose legacy made an indelible mark on the City of Stamford. She will be greatly missed. My thoughts are with her family and friends during this difficult time”.

MAYOR’S UPDATES

  • Stamford Veterans Resource Center Visit: This week, I had the opportunity to visit the Stamford Veterans Resource Center and connect with the incredible volunteers who are supporting our local veteran community. Open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, the Center offers a range of services including workshops, benefit assistance, health screenings, and opportunities for connection. Since opening in 2023, it has served more than 300 veterans and now provides on-site mental health counseling through the Westchester County Vet Center.

  • Scalzi Bocce Courts: Last Thursday, I was thrilled to join city officials and members of the Stamford Bocce League to celebrate the completion of eight newly renovated bocce courts at Scalzi Park. Our parks are some of Stamford’s greatest assets, and investments like this help ensure they remain active, welcoming spaces for recreation and community connection.

  • Honoring Our Public Safety Leaders: This month, I had the honor of administering the oath of office to several outstanding individuals who have committed their careers to keeping Stamford safe. We welcomed Christopher Repp as our new Fire Marshal and Victor Rella as Assistant Fire Chief of Volunteer Services, both bringing decades of experience and dedication to their new roles. I also had the privilege of swearing in Jack Fitzpatrick as a new police recruit as he begins his journey in law enforcement. We’re grateful for their service and wish them all the best in their continued work to protect and serve our community.
