Read below to learn more about initiatives my administration is working on, resources for Stamford residents, information about upcoming events, and important city and state information.

Independence Day Fireworks Reminder: In celebration of July 4th, the City of Stamford will hold fireworks at Cummings Beach on Wednesday, July 2. The rain date will be Thursday, July 3. Entertainment will begin at 6:00 pm and residents will be able to bring blankets and chairs to the beach. There will be food trucks onsite and the fireworks will begin shortly after 9:00 pm.

 

MAYOR’S UPDATES

  • Sidewalk Improvements: As part of our Vision Zero Initiative, crews have started work on Toms Road to install a new sidewalk and an upgraded crosswalk in front of Dolan Middle School.

  • Reimaging Bedford Street: My administration has recently launched the Reimagine Bedford Street project which is a community-driven visioning process to shape the future of Bedford Street between Broad Street and Forest Street. We want to hear from you! Share what you love about Bedford Street and what you'd like to see improved. Take our survey here: https://veoci.com/v/p/form/323eu5qamzjn.
  • Unity Breakfast: As one of the most diverse cities in the nation, we can take tremendous steps when we walk together in harmony. On June 10th, we hosted our 2nd Annual Unity Breakfast at the Feguson Library with the goal of bringing the community together to foster more unity and connection. To further this effort, we are inviting you to sign this Unity Pledge. By signing this pledge, you’re committing to treat every neighbor with dignity, to speak up against hate, and to help create a community where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued. Join us.   • Stamford 2035
    • Neighborhood Action Workshops: Five lively Neighborhood Action Workshops were recently completed and if you’re curious how your feedback is making a difference? Watch our recent webinar (recorded live on Monday, June 23rd) to see how community insights are informing the draft plan: watch here. (Passcode: 2S$a^?5Z)
    • Upcoming: Draft Plan Public Review

      We’re not done yet! The Stamford 2035 Draft Plan will be available for public review and comment for 30 days starting this July. We'll update you with more details about how to engage and share your feedback, but this will be your chance to shape Stamford’s future before the Planning Board’s approval hearing on Tuesday, September 16th.

    • Join Us: Open House at Mill River Park: Let’s celebrate our progress and look ahead—together! Join us for a special open house during the Mill River Park's Summer in the Park series:
      • Wednesday, July 23 from 6:30-8:00 PM at the Mill River Park, Whittingham Discovery Center Patio. Enjoy a free, family-friendly evening featuring: Opportunities to ask questions and share feedback on the draft plan, A chance to connect with neighbors and city leaders, Live music from local DJs, beer garden for guests 21+. Register here and be part of Stamford’s future—your voice matters!

         

  • Walk In Permitting Schedule: Don’t miss our upcoming walk-in permitting hours intended for residential and small commercial businesses such as food businesses, cosmetology, barber, and retail food establishments. City officials will be present to help those in attendance. Next session will be on Wednesday, July 10th between 9:30am – 12:00pm in the 7th Floor Lobby of Government Center.

 

  • Hunting Ridge Road Bridge: The Hunting Ridge Road Bridge is now open to vehicular traffic!
  • Cedar Heights Bridge Replacement: The Cedar Heights Bridge is now open!
  • Lathon Wider Community Center: On the morning of Thursday, January 2, the City Facilities Department was notified of a flooding incident in the basement of the Lathon Wider Community Center (137 Henry Street) caused by a failure in a piece of mechanical equipment. The target date for reopening the building is early September 2025. For any questions or urgent needs regarding the Health Department’s walk-in health services, please call (203)-977-5652.
    • The Stamford Health Department Community Public Health Clinic has temporarily moved to 138 Stillwater Avenue - a former Optimus location. Convenient street parking is available.
  • Apply for a Special Events Permit: To reserve a pavilion or host events at city parks click here.
  • Pavilion Rental: If you would like to host an event at the pavilion, please click here to apply.

  • Walk with the City of Stamford ADA Advisory Council: Celebrate 35 Years of the ADA with a walk with Stamford's ADA Advisory Council on July 23rd from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Cove Island Park. Register via QR code below.

Employment Opportunities in the City

Traffic

  • Old Long Ridge Road Bridge: After a visual inspection of the Old Long Ridge Road Bridge, just south of Hunting Ridge Road, city engineers have implemented a temporary one-way traffic pattern, effective immediately. The City will share further updates as they become available.

 

  • Mill Road Bridge: The Mill Road bridge near Old Long Ridge Road is open to one lane vehicular traffic.  Residents can click here for updates.
  • Wire Mill Bridge: The Wire Mill Bridge is currently closed to vehicular traffic due to replacement. Residents can click here for updates.
  • Connecticut Department of Transportation Stamford Station Construction: Construction continues at the Stamford Train Station, so please make sure to plan ahead.
