MAYOR’S UPDATES

State of the City: Earlier this month, I had the opportunity to deliver my annual State of the City address at the Chamber of Commerce’s annual event, where I reflected on the meaningful progress we’ve made toward building a more inclusive, equitable, affordable, and vibrant Stamford—a city where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. Through thoughtful investments in infrastructure, public safety, housing, and quality of life initiatives, we’re shaping a future-ready city that works for all.

During the event, we also honored Deputy Fire Marshal Mark Kuhar for his leadership during a 16-hour response to the four-alarm fire that devastated several small businesses on Bedford Street in March. Thanks to his quick thinking—and the courage of our firefighters and police officers—not a single civilian was harmed, and the fire was successfully contained. We are deeply grateful for his service and for all our first responders who work tirelessly to keep our community safe.

Week of the Young Child: I had the pleasure of visiting CLC on Maple Avenue earlier this month to read to students as part of the Week of the Young Child. I’m so grateful for the dedicated educators who support and inspire our youngest learners, helping lay the foundation for their future success.

Lathon Wider Community Center: On the morning of Thursday, January 2, the City Facilities Department was notified of a flooding incident in the basement of the Lathon Wider Community Center (137 Henry Street) caused by a failure in a piece of mechanical equipment. The target date for reopening the building is July 1, 2025. For any questions or urgent needs regarding the Health Department’s walk-in health services, please call (203)-977-5652.
- The Stamford Health Department Community Public Health Clinic has temporarily moved to 138 Stillwater Avenue - a former Optimus location. Convenient street parking is available.

Memorial Day Parade: The 2025 Memorial Day Parade will take place on Sunday, May 18th with the parade stepping off from Stamford Police Department HQ at 12:00 pm and Ceremony in Veterans Park at 1:00 pm. Click here to register to be part of the parade.

Traffic

Old Long Ridge Road Bridge: After a visual inspection of the Old Long Ridge Road Bridge, just south of Hunting Ridge Road, city engineers have implemented a temporary one-way traffic pattern, effective immediately. The City will share further updates as they become available.

Mill Road Bridge: The Mill Road bridge near Old Long Ridge Road is open to one lane vehicular traffic. Residents can click here for updates.

Cedar Heights Bridge Replacement: The Cedar Heights Bridge is currently closed and is scheduled to reopen by May 15^th, 2025. Residents are encouraged to check here for more information.

Hunting Ridge Road Bridge Replacement: The Hunting Ridge Road Bridge is currently closed for replacement. A detour route is in effect, with the project scheduled to be completed in June 2025. More information can be found here.

Connecticut Department of Transportation Stamford Station Construction: Construction continues at the Stamford Train Station, so please make sure to plan ahead.
