MAYOR’S UPDATES

  • Recent Vandalism at Academy of Information Technology and Engineering High School: Antisemitism and hate will not be tolerated and have no place in the City of Stamford and Stamford Public Schools. I released the following statement with Dr. Lucero and Board of Education President Jackie Heftman after antisemitic and white supremacist vandalism were found painted on the AITE High School campus this past week:

“We are saddened to report that AITE was vandalized again overnight with antisemitic and white supremacist symbols of hate. We vehemently condemn this abhorrent act. This incident, which appears related to the vandalism reported at AITE on July 26th, has been reported to the Stamford Police Department (SPD), which is investigating. While there are existing cameras at this site, to curtail future acts of this nature, the City of Stamford will be working with SPD and Stamford Public Schools to add enhanced surveillance at the AITE campus.

We have no indication that this hate-filled vandalism was perpetrated by a member of our school community. Regardless, we want to state once again that antisemitism, hate speech, bullying, or the dissemination of any symbols associated with hate are not tolerated in Stamford Public Schools and the City of Stamford. These incidents will continue to be investigated until the perpetrators are identified and held criminally liable for their actions.

Everyone in our community deserves to be treated with dignity, respect, and acceptance, and we need your help to bring an end to this egregious behavior. If you have any information about this incident that would help in the investigation - including photos or comments shared on social media - please contact the Stamford Police Department".

  • Unity Pledge: Today, I joined with Dr. Lucero, St. Senator Pat Billie Miller, and community leaders to sign a Unity Pledge in response to recent incidents of antisemitism and racist vandalism and rhetoric in our city of Stamford.

  • INTEMPO Summer Camp: Last week, I visited INTEMPO’s Summer Camp, where students preformed short pieces that they have learned through the summer. It was great to learn and see firsthand the positive impact that INTEMPO has on our students in Stamford.
