TRAFFIC ENGINEER

The City of Stamford is recruiting for the position of Traffic Engineer

 

SUMMARY OF DUTIES:  Under the general direction of the Bureau Chief of Transportation, Traffic and Parking is responsible for designing and managing traffic safety program for the City of Stamford.  Responsibilities include overseeing the traffic and signal engineering teams, supervision of the pavement markings, signs and traffic signals engineering and operational staff; data collection and analyses; project analysis; project design and construction oversight; and, crash analysis.  Prepares overall program plans and budget requests, monitors expenditures, and administers the approved budget; does related other duties as required.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:  Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Traffic Engineering or a related field.  A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in traffic engineering and safety management with at least two (2) years previous supervisory experience and budget management.  A Master’s degree in Traffic or Transportation Engineering can be substituted for one (1) year of experience.

COLLECTION DRIVER/HEAVY EQUIPMENT OPERATOR

The city of Stamford is recruiting for the positions of Collection Driver and Heavy Equipment Operator.

 

COLLECTION DRIVER DUTIES:  Under the general supervision of a supervisor, performs skilled and unskilled manual work and operates heavy equipment such as refuse packers, snow plows and other equipment as assigned in the Office of Operations; performs minor maintenance on assigned equipment; does related work as required.

 

COLLECTION DRIVER MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:   Two (2) years of experience in Public Works activities, one (1) of which shall have involved the operation of heavy equipment OR two (2) years of experience in the operation of heavy equipment AND a valid Commercial Driver’s License.

 

EQUIPMENT OPERATOR DUTIES:  Under the general supervision of a supervisor or foreman in the Office of Operations, performs skilled and unskilled manual labor tasks in the maintenance, construction and repair of City roadways; operates and maintains small hand and power tools and less complex heavy equipment; does related work as required. 

 

EQUIPMENT OPERATOR MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:   Two (2) years of experience in Public Works activities or in the construction trade, one (1) which  must have involved the operation of heavy equipment OR two (2) years’ experience operating heavy equipment in another work setting OR two (2) years of experience as a Laborer with the City of Stamford.  AND, a valid Commercial Driver’s License.

CUSTODIAN

The City of Stamford is currently recruiting for the position of Custodian.

 

DUTIES:  Under the general supervision of a Lead or Head Custodian or other supervisor, performs custodial work in the cleaning, security and minor maintenance of a city or school building; does related work as required.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:  One (1) year of experience in the cleaning or maintenance of buildings and grounds.

 

NOTE:  Requires possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s License at time of appointment.

CONSTRUCTION BUILDING INSPECTOR

DUTIES:  Under the general supervision of the Building Official or designee, performs specialized inspection work of ordinary responsibility in connection with regulation building construction or alterations for compliance with building regulations; does related work as required.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:   Graduation from an accredited high school and five (5) years in construction, construction design or supervision of construction of buildings on a full-time basis.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:  At time of appointment, possession of a valid Connecticut Motor Vehicle Operator’s License.  Within ninety (90) days of appointment, possession of certification as a Connecticut State Building Official or Assistant Building Official.

RECREATION SUPERVISOR

POSITION:  Under the general supervision of the Assistant Superintendent of Recreation or designee, performs supervisory work of more than ordinary difficulty and responsibility in the field of public recreation; within the framework of established policies, the work involves considerable latitude for independent development of programs; does related work as required. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation or a related field and three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in organized community recreation and sports programs.

LEAD TRAFFIC SIGNAL TECHNICIAN

*This position is open only to permanent full-time employees of the City who meet the minimum qualification requirement listed below

 

GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES:  Under the general supervision of the Signal Systems Engineer or designee, performs skilled work; and plans, assigns, supervises and inspects the work of all skilled and semi-skilled personnel assigned to installation, testing, maintenance and repair of traffic signal control equipment; performs work of substantial difficulty in the analysis, diagnosis, installation and maintenance of traffic signal system and communications equipment; does related work as required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS Graduation from an accredited high school and five (5) years of experience in the repair and maintenance of solid state traffic control signal equipment, of which one (1) shall have been in the repair and/or installation of traffic signal equipment or combination of education and experience.

 

NOTE:  Post-high school education in the electronic, electrical and/or electro-mechanical fields may substitute for work experience on a yearly basis up to a maximum of two (2) years.
