Our Mission

The Stamford Health Department protects, preserves and promotes the health of this multicultural community by integrating the skills and knowledge of a multidisciplinary staff on an ongoing basis. The pre-eminent goal is to maintain the community's health by preventing and/or limiting and disease.

We maintain current certifications from the US EPA (United States Environmental Protection Agency), the State of Connecticut Department of Public Health, the FDA (Food and Drug Administration), CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments), and the United States Department of Health and Human Services.

Environmental Testing (incl. drinking water) Well water, recreational bathing water, rivers, lakes, ponds and streams, state requirements for day care and nursery licenses, water company water, lead in water, swimming pool water, shellfish water, as well as other general environmental concerns.
Clinical Testing Levels of lead in blood for children under 6 years of age, sexually transmitted disease testing, anemia, diabetes, total cholesterol, pregnancy and strep testing.  Performed at specified times and through specific clinics, Not a Walk in Service!
Information and Referral Services Rabies referrals and Insect identification.
Lyme Ticks Receipt and Shipment of Ticks for Lyme Disease Testing. Information on the prevelance of the disease in ticks and when the ticks are most active.
Reports and Surveys Information on various environmental studies for the Stamford area.
